Cameron Contemporary Art is dedicated to showing a changing programme of high quality established and exciting up and coming British artists.

Patsy McArthur

Born in 1966, Luke studied Fine Art in the 1980s and while others faithfully chanted the Conceptual mantra of the time, Luke perfected his drawing skills and drew inspiration from the early 20th century French painters - particularly Henri Matisse and Picasso.

His recent move to a quiet village near Rye in East Sussex has afforded the space and time needed to develop his practice - each painting is drawn or indeed wrenched from the bottom of his boots. Whether on a large or small scale every work has an immediacy and punch that is truly inspiring.

We think Luke Hannam is a rare talent and are thrilled to present his work.

Patsy McArthur studied painting in Aberdeen at Gray's School of Art in the late 90s and gained a Masters in European Fine Art from the Winchester School of Art Barcelona program in 2001.

Since then she has lived and worked in Barcelona, Berlin and Sydney and has undertaken residencies in NYC, Italy and Shanghai.

She has exhibited extensively throughout the UK and abroad, recently exhibiting at Context fair during Art Miami, and has held recent solo shows with Thompsons Gallery in London and Le Salon Vert in Geneva.

She was a shortlisted finalist of the inaugural Castlegate Prize in 2021 and, in 2022, she was selected for both the RSA Annual and the SSA Annual shows at the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh.

“I make drawings and paintings which study space, light and movement and explore themes of escapism.

I’m interested in the fragmented and fleeting nature of experience; the interplay between submission and will; the moving and fixed and the figure and its environment in a constantly changing world.

Often those moments I’m looking to capture are those where we’re lost; in movement, in music, in a shard of light, in ourselves”.
